

Clarence Reuben Giese, 91, Mesa, AZ died on Sunday, March 23, 2014, under hospice care at Portobello Assisted Living Home of complications from Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on July 18, 1922, to John & Sophia (Weisenburger) Giese in Tuttle, North Dakota. Clarence graduated from Sterling High School in Sterling, ND. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII in the American Arena and Asiatic Pacific as an Aviation Radioman. In his later years he liked to tell of his military travels across Australia by rail, during a special detail project. Out of the service he returned home and married Marilyn (Moos) Giese on October 22, 1948; last October they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Over the years Clarence and Marilyn lived in several different states including North Dakota, Montana, Washington and for the past 22 years, Arizona. They were world travelers and loved sending and receiving postcards from foreign places. Clarence worked for the railroad (which went through many name changes and restructurings) for 28 years, retiring in 1984. Clarence is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, three children: Clarence John Giese, Bellevue, WA; Jeff & Sheila (Giese) Brown, Centralia, WA; Jeff & Mavis (Giese) Rosbach of Jesup, Georgia; 4 Grandchildren: Dan & Shannon (Brown) Gravett, Shoreline, WA; Zane & Tarra Brown, Seattle, WA; Kelsey Rosbach, Houston, TX and Dan & Meredith Rosbach, Alpharetta, GA; Dylan Nelson, Washington, DC and two great-grandchildren: Lily and Brian Gravett, Shoreline, WA. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Edwin Giese, Harold Giese, Richard Giese, Albert Giese, Carl Giese, sisters Ester Berg, Ida Schauer and in 1962 by an infant daughter, Melanie. A visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 am with a funeral service at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 E. Broadway Rd in Mesa with the interment immediately following. Funeral services and interment will be at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park & Funeral Care.
