McClinton, Clarence L. (Mac), went to be with our Lord and Savior June 28th, 2010, after fighting a courageous battle with complications after surgery, his wife and love of his life, Penny, at his side. Mac will be missed and remembered and loved for many things, his good nature, his distinctive laugh, his respect for others, his forgiving nature and his genuine kindness. Mac's strength of character and decency made it a delight and a privilege to have had him as a husband and a friend. He was active in the golf community, music, reading and travel to name a few. He was always eager and willing to start up a conversation and make a new friend. He was especially proud of his military service. Born July 17, 1931 to Lucille and Garland McClinton in Kingsbury, Texas, he was the eldest of 6 children. He excelled in sports and attended the University of Texas in Austin on a football scholarship with a pre-med major. After his sophomore year he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was put in charge of the air base hospital laboratory in Korea, during the Korean conflict. Upon his discharge, he finished his formal education at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, with a Biology degree. After teaching briefly at the University, he accepted a position with Iowa Methodist Hospital Laboratory and Blood Bank, overseeing those departments until his retirement in 1984. Mac then did some part-time work with insurance and annuities until moving to Mesa, Az. in 1991. Feeling he was still too young to retire, he was in charge of the post office at ViewPoint Resort in Mesa for 2 more years. Mac is survived by his wife of 30 years, Penny, sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Tom Bannick of Queen Creek, brother-in-law, Kelly Brigger of Gilbert, two sisters, Cecile Durham of Los Angeles, Calif., Marion Giles of San Antonio, Texas and a brother J.T. McClinton of New Braunfels, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Emory and Herbert McClinton. A memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of this remarkable man Tuesday, July 6th, 2010 at 10:30 am, at the Apache Wells Community Church, located at 2115 N. Gayridge Road in Mesa, Az.
