Doris Ann Falk passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 28, 2013 at the Madera Park Assisted Living facility in Gilbert, AZ. Ann (as she preferred to be called) was born September 5, 1923, in Clarence, IA, to William A. and Lydia Elfrieda Engelking. After farming in Iowa for a few years, the Engelking family moved to Minnesota where, after graduating from high school, Ann was introduced to Leonard Falk on a blind date. Ann and Leonard were married in Mtn. Lake, MN, in 1942. In 1949, after farming for several years, Ann and Leonard and their two small daughters moved to Englewood, CO, where Leonard worked as a sheet metal worker and Ann stayed home to care for her family. Ann enjoyed her role as a housewife while she sewed all the clothes (including coats) for her girls, canned vegetables and peaches, darned her husband’s socks, and somehow managed to re-arrange the furniture every few weeks. At day’s end it was always a surprise tom walk into a house that was arranged totally different from what it was in the morning. In her later years, after moving to AZ, Ann continued to sew, painted many oil paintings (which were very good), and with her husband, took long road trips around the US. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers William D. and Merwyn Engelking, her husband Leonard, and her grandson, Mick Cox. Ann is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy Falk of Austin, TX and Judith Murphy and her husband Phil of Avondale, AZ; grandchildren Tracey Payne and her husband Matt, of Omaha, NE; Kelly Cox of Engelwood, CO and his fiancé Hannah; Johnnie Beaty of Austin, TX, and great-grandchildren Allison Cox of Indian Hills, CO, and Caden Greinert of Austin, TX. A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 pm with a funeral service at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Mariposa Gardens Funeral Care 400 S. Power Rd, Mesa, AZ.
