

Edwin Earl “Ed” Schulte, formerly of Mankato, Minnesota, passed away December 31, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 83. He was born May 31, 1932 in Aplington, Iowa to Christian and Nettie [Pankratz] Schulte. Ed was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, camping, golf and especially archery hunting. He enjoyed the pursuit of big game across North America and he specifically loved to go elk hunting in Colorado. During his early years, he played fast pitch softball and was an avid downhill and water skier. Edwin worked for the railroad for a few years in southern Minnesota. He went to Mankato State University to become a history teacher where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. After college, Ed went on to work for Federated Insurance and moved his family to Marshall, Minnesota where they lived until his early retirement at the age of 57. During his work in insurance, Ed and Darla went on annual company trips, where, during his down time, he enjoyed his favorite pastimes, hunting and fishing. Following retirement, Ed and his wife Darla spent time together traveling the country in their motor home, ultimately splitting their time between Minnesota and Arizona. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Darla [Sheehan] Schulte; daughter Marcy Schulte and husband William Conway; son Scot Schulte and wife Jan; granddaughters Amber and Jocelyn “Josie” Schulte; his brother Robert Schulte; sister Diane and husband Seighfredt Olson, sister Anita Faulhaber, sister-in-law Dixie Thielges as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at Mariposa Gardens Cemetery Chapel, 6747 East Broadway Road, Mesa, Arizona on Monday January 4th at 11:00 am. On January 17th at 2:00pm a celebration will he held at Ed and Darla's home church - Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota.
