Fredrick Martin Johnson was born December 4, 1936 in Keokuk, Iowa. Fred grew up and attended school in Keokuk (including a short stint in a one room schoolhouse) and then entered the Air Force at the ripe age of 17 years old. He went on to have an exemplary career as a fighter pilot, pilot trainer, and air traffic controller and served multiple tours in Vietnam. Fred eventually moved to Arizona with his family to train at Williams Air Force Base, fell in love with Arizona and never left the state. Fred earned his bachelor’s degree in Accountancy while he was in the Air Force and after over 23 years in the armed services, retired and started his second career as a CPA. Similar to his work as a pilot, Fred was meticulous and detail oriented. He was dedicated to his clients, providing wise and insightful counsel, and never truly retired until his passing. Fred loved to golf, to play bridge, and to attend plays and concerts. He loved to take friends and family out to eat at nice restaurants and he loved to spoil his family and friends in general. He was proud to keep his cars until they hit at least 300,000 miles minimum and was known to always have a pencil on hand in his shirt pocket. Fred lived an amazing life full of adventure, hard work, traveling, and good friends and family that truly adored his kind, gentle and generous soul. He was the most loving and thoughtful father, Papa, father-in-law, uncle, sibling or friend you could have on your side. We were blessed to have had him in our lives for so many years and he will be sorely missed. Fredrick M. Johnson, 85, passed away on January 23, 2022 in Arizona with family near his side. Fred is survived by his children, Kevin and Laura, grandchildren Sidney, Mary, Blake, Josh and Kate and by his brother, Arthur. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary C. Johnson.
