It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Gary Lynn Vernon on September 22, 2024 at the age of 80 in Phoenix, Arizona. Born on April 29, 1944 to JP Vernon and Oleta Robertson Vernon in Phillipsburg, Missouri, he was known for his gregarious spirit, thirst for knowledge, and love of engaging people of all backgrounds. He attended Willard High School in Missouri where he played for their basketball team, and went on to study Business at the University of Arkansas.
Honing his knowledge and skills through various jobs, Gary eventually established his own business, QTA Industries Inc. in Anaheim CA, an innovation company that designed and fabricated products for the aerospace industry. Never one to stay idle, he and his business partner, Dennis Clevenger, continued to pursue other enterprises in the 21st century. These included owning and managing vacation rental properties in AZ, CA, and NV; as well as operating their own large-scale construction and siding company.
Gary deeply valued his faith in Jesus. Raised in the church, he developed a strong desire to deepen his knowledge and understanding of his Christian faith as he matured. Through Scripture, service, and worship with his church family - first at Living Stones Church, and more recently at Chaparral Christian Church - his faith became a deeply personal commitment. It was evident in all he did and played a significant role in shaping who Gary was.
Gary is survived by his wife of 26 years, Cathryn; his children Melanie Sinclair, Gary Dallas Vernon, and Enzo Vernon; his grandchildren Caya Sinclair and Noah Sinclair; his sister Marsha Forsyth; Jane Vernon Larsen, mother to Melanie and Gary Dallas; his nephew Sean Forsyth; and his favorite canine companion Mojo.
A service celebrating Gary’s life will be held at 3 pm on October 19, 2024 at Chaparral Christian Church located at 6451 E Shea Blvd, Scottsdale AZ 85254. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made using the links below either to K9s for Warriors or Operation Second Chance in honor of Gary’s memory.
Please join us in remembering a remarkable human being.
