Georgie E Schmidt Jr.

Georgie E. Schmidt Jr. passed away October 5, 2012 in Mesa, Arizona. Born in Titonka, Iowa to George and Lenora (nee Burnett) Schmidt, Georgie arrived on September 24, 1923. Georgie was born and grew up on a farm. He graduated from Woden High School in Woden, Iowa. After school, Georgie enlisted in the Army Air Corp during WWII and was one of three survivors when his B-24, the “Ruptured Duck” was shot down in Germany on April 7, 1945. That act earned him a Purple Heart and a Distinguished Flying Cross. He flew back home a few days after being shot down to retrain in B29’s. After the military, Georgie went into the lumber business, where he managed French Lumber Company. He married the love of his life, Helen, on August 20, 1946 in Titonka, Iowa. Together they shared 66 wonderful years. Georgie enjoyed wood working and carpentry. He was a “Jack of All Trades” and could do just about anything he put his mind to. His first love was his family. His grandkids held his world. He was strong in his faith, patient, kind, and gentle. Georgie was the epitome of a loving husband, an extraordinary father and grandfather, a special brother, a wonderful uncle, and a loyal friend. Georgie is survived by his adoring wife, Helen, daughter Shiela Schmidt, son Scott Schmidt, daughter-in-law Debbie Schmidt, granddaughter Greer Evans, grandson Christopher Schmidt, brothers Roger Schmidt, Lester Schmidt, Jeremiah Schmidt, and Glenn Schmidt, sisters Lenora Schmidt-Holtorf, and Emmagene Schmidt-Silber. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Lenora Schmidt, brother Harold Schmidt, sister Marcella Schmidt-Biehn, and son-in-law Ken Evans. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park & Funeral Care 6747 East Broadway Road Mesa, Arizona 85206 (480) 830-4422.
