Gloria Mae Phillips, 91, passed away on April 26, 2026. Born on March 13, 1935, in Clare County, Michigan, Gloria’s life was marked by a steady grace, a kind-hearted spirit, and an adventurous willingness to step forward when others might hesitate.
Gloria graduated from Holt High School in 1954, where she was announced as the Oldsmobile Queen—an early moment that reflected the warmth and regard she inspired in those around her.
In her working life, Gloria served under a few doctors and went through nursing training, bringing care and attentiveness to the people she helped. She also dedicated herself to community service, including a year as vice mayor of Springerville, Arizona. In time, she would be known as a very honorable homemaker—cherished for the steady love, dignity, and devotion she brought to daily life and to those she held close.
Gloria was married to Frank Phillips, her high school sweetheart. Although it did not stay that way, life eventually brought them back together, and they married on October 18, 1991, in Angola, Indiana. She is survived by many family and friends.
A social presence with an open heart, Gloria was known for rooting for the underdog and for the easy way she could make others feel seen and included. She enjoyed square dancing and held a deep love for music in general—interests that reflected her lively spirit and her appreciation for connection, rhythm, and joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Advantage Melcher Chapel of the Roses, 43 S Stapley Dr, Mesa, Arizona 85204, on May 8, 2026, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Arizona Care Hospice and/or The Medina House.
