Harvey Gene Engelby

Harvey was born to Melvin and Edith (Olson) Engelby on February 17, 1939 in Buffalo Center, Iowa. He graduated from Rake High School in Rake, Iowa and he continued his education at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa and Lee’s Barber School in St. Paul, Minnesota. Harvey proudly served our country in the US Army from 1962-1968. For 6 years, Harvey was first-class barber at the legendary Radisson Hotel in Minneapolis, MN. At this job, he also met the love of his life Carol (Martin) Engelby whom he married on February 26, 1966, at Grace Lutheran Church in Owatonna, Minnesota. In 1971, he became a proud business owner when he moved to Fairmont, MN and opened his own barber shop called 'Harv’s Barber Shop' until 1984. He changed careers and went to work for Armours/Fairmont Foods from 1985-2008. After 38 unforgettable years and raising three boys in Fairmont, they retired to Mesa, AZ, where Harvey and Carol had many good times at Tower Point Resort. He was a member of the Squires and the American Legion. Harvey was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona.

Harvey was preceded in death by his loving parents and his brother Perlon along with his aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Carol; his sons Timothy (Cori) of Omaha, Nebraska, James (Kim) of Anaheim, California, and Daniel (Katy) of Andover, Minnesota; his grandchildren Katie, Erick, Jameson, Piper and Paxton; his cousins Julie and Bennett Quamme; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws Helen Conlon and Ruth Engelby; brother-in-law Don (Sue) Martin as well as many close friends.
