Herman “Bill” William Scholz, age 91 of Mesa Arizona passed on Saturday June 21, 2025.
Born on November 13th, 1933, in St. Albans Long Island New York to Herman August Scholz and Therese Scholz. He is survived by his two sons and their wives Marc and Kyra Scholz, Alan and Lynn Scholz. Seven grandchildren; Marcus (predeceased), Arielle, Lisa, Elisha, Amber, Chans, and Autum. Eight grandchildren; Solana, Savannah, Gracie, Brynlee, Kaitlyn, Huntley, Brantlee, and Michael.
Herman grew up in New York and Germany at an early age and came back to New York with his father on the last passenger ship to New York on May 4th, 1939, before World War II started. He grew up in Bainbridge N.Y. and graduated high school in 1951. Soon after his graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 18. After basic training he was assigned to his first duty station in France. That is where he met his wife Helene “Frenchy” in Dijon, France. It was love at first sight for them and dad proposed to her seven days later. They were married on April 22, 1955, and together for 68 years. They moved around Europe and the United States 19 times while he was in the Airforce. He also served in Thailand during the Vietnam war. After serving for 26 years, he retired from the Airforce in Missouri and they both moved to Arizona where they both lived out their lives.
Dad was very strict with both Alan and I as we were growing up but taught us to respect others and live a life appreciating what we had and was given to us. Dad was always quick witted and made everyone feel welcome and loved. He loved to play cards and games with family and friends until all hours of the night. Loved his pet cats that they had over the years. His other love was to restore and drive his MG sport cars. He was very involved with developing Ham radio systems and stations.
He will be forever in our hearts and memories and will be missed by all those who have come to know him. He surely has blessed us in many ways and many times in our lives. Be at peace with the Lord Jesus.
