

It is with deep sympathy, yet joyful remembrance of a life dedicated to service, that we share the news of J. Fernando Vega’s passing. Fernando passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 91.
Born in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, on May 30, 1934, Fernando built a life marked by devotion to others. He proudly served in the United States military and later pursued higher education, graduating from Arizona State University.
For most of his career, J. Fernando Vega was a respected educator in the Tempe Elementary School District, where he guided and inspired countless students. His service to the community extended deeply into his faith. He was ordained and served as a Deacon in the Diocese of Phoenix for several years, offering spiritual guidance and support. Together with his brother, Rev. Rodolfo Vega Jr., he co hosted the radio and television program Primeramente Dios.
Fernando shared his life’s journey with his beloved wife, Sandra Wexler Vega, with whom he traveled extensively.
He is survived by his devoted spouse, Sandra Wexler Vega; his children, Jose, Ana, and Susan; and his stepchildren, Carrie and Lawrence. He is also remembered with love by his grandchildren—David Michael, Fernando, Nicolas, Daniel, Timoteo, Corissa, Benjamin, and Gabriela—and his step grandchildren, Michael and Madison. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings, Cristina, Alma, Cecilia, and Rodolfo.
We hold in loving memory his three sons—Marco, Andrew, and Richard—and his parents, Rodolfo N. Vega and Socorro Palma de Vega, who preceded him in death.
J. Fernando Vega’s life was defined by integrity, compassion, and faith. His unwavering dedication to his country, his students, his church, and his family leaves a profound and lasting legacy. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
