Janet Ann (Smith) Fricke passed away Feb. 21, 2014 in Mesa, AZ surrounded by her loved ones. Jan was born in Red Wing, MN on May 16, 1942 to Parents Philip R. Smith and Gladys Smith. She resided in Zumbrota, MN in her early years and then moved to Rochester where she graduated from John Marshall High School in 1960. She worked several administrative jobs, while raising a family. She was exceptionally creative and loved to sew, quilt and cross stitch and lovingly shared these skills with her two daughters.
She enjoyed shopping and playing cards and games with her husband. She was most happy when spending time with her grandchildren.
Jan loved being in Hawaii, where she was married to Gerald Fricke in November of 1998. Recently they celebrated their 15th Anniversary. Jan made many good friends throughout her life, and very much enjoyed her community in Arizona, where she resided.
Jan is preceded in death by her father, Philip R. Smith, and her grandson Jacob A. Sundblad. Jan is survived by her mother, Gladys V. Smith; husband Gerald Fricke; daughters Jody West (Nigel) and Carla Sundblad (Al); grandchildren Tess, Robin and Philip; step-children Tim Fricke (Connie), Gerilynn Dahmes (Steve) and Diane Fricke; seven step-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren; brother Gary Smith (Carol) and Marie Ellingson (Bruce); many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Memorial services will be held Feb. 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Chapel, 612 S. Ellsworth Rd., Mesa, AZ 85208. A Reception will follow the memorial at Our Savior’s Church. Interment will be held in Minnesota with a memorial service at a later date.
