Jerry was born on April 30, 1955 to Joyce and Oline Martinson in Breckenridge, Minnesota. He had two brothers Wayne and Gary and two sisters Diane and Joanne. He never lacked for companionship, his siblings loved and adored him and included him in their activities. Whether a date or an athletic event they took him everywhere.
Jerry moved with his parents to Pinetop, Arizona in 1969 at the age of fourteen. He was a good looking guy and made friends easily. He enjoyed football and basketball but his love was baseball and he played all four years in high school as a Blue Ridge Yellow Jacket. He met his high school sweetheart Holly Havens in choir his junior year. His friend Charlie, assured him that was where all the cute girls went 3rd hour, so they dropped auto mechanics and joined the choir.
Jerry and his best friend Kevin started their first business together, F & M Construction in 1982. In 1983 he married Holly and the made their home in Pinetop. Jerry built many homes on and off the Navajo Indian Reservation and Holly taught high school at Blue Ridge.
He was blessed with 2 children from his first wife Cindy. Nick was born in 1978 and Greg in 1981. Those boys were truly the love of his life. He delighted in their accomplishments, whether bike racing or underwater diving, those boys could do no wrong. They were always a part of his life, holidays and summers were a blast, fishing or golfing, snowboarding or trips to Vegas it didn’t matter, as long as they were together.
No matter where Jerry went he had a good time. The class of 73’ was full of his best friends. Reunions, golf tournaments, fishing trips or Vegas these guys had fun and never lacked for stories. Whether it was flipping for cab fare, fist bumping with Hawk and Randy or cashing in the “Big Ticket”. “Right on catch a ton” as Hawk would say or Dane the 3 charlitos love ya man. (Ma Na Ma Na). He will be greatly missed by all of these guys.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, one nephew, David Martinson; a brother in law Donavon McConn, and a sister in law Mary Martinson. He is survived by his wife Holly Martinson, two sons Nick and Greg Martinson (Shauna) and the most beautiful granddaughter Lennon Mae. Wayne Martinson, Diane McConn, Gary and Gloria Martinson, Joanne and Tom Dam and many nieces and nephews that he enjoyed seeing on holidays and golf trips. “Keep making those darn aces.” Long live Pebble.
When it is safe there will be a celebration of life for Jerry. The date and time to be determined.
