John Sylvester Codd

John was the oldest of 2 children born in London, England on August 5, 1934 to Thomas and Lillian (Noonan) Codd.

John attended High School in London, England. The family moved to Bermuda for 1 year.

In 1954 they moved to Chicago, IL. He worked at Prudential Insurance selling insurance where he met Betty in 1955. They were married September 27, 1956.

John enlisted in the National Guard in August of 1955 and was honorably discharged in April of 1966. He served three terms of duty and held ranks as Specialist Second Class, Private First Class and Sargeant First Class.

John graduated from Dental School in 1968 and they purchased a home in Park Ridge, Il. where he owned his own practice. Dad was an avid golfer, tennis player, bowler and poker player. John and Betty loved to go on vacations with their friends to Club Meds all over the United States. They were heavily involved in several clubs and were very social.

In May of 1993 they moved to Mesa, AZ. as their first grandchild (Nicole) turned one that year. They continued their social activities, vacationed in some grand and wonderful places including several cruises overseas. He continued to be an avid golfer as well as a regular Poker player at the casinos in Arizona. He became known as "Papa" and doted on his grandchildren!

John is survived by his daughter, Julie McAllister (Brian); grandchildren Nicole McAllister, Justin McAllister, Jennifer Codd and Kelly Codd; sister Carol Rider (Rich); sister in laws Trudy Elmblad and Pat Elmblad; brothers in law Bruce Elmblad and Leon Stock and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty Codd of 59 years.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park at 11:00 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at The McAllister home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation.
