She was born at home on February 3, 1929, in Waterville, Maine, to Cleophis and Marie (Rodrigue) Girard. Doris attended school through the eighth grade, after which she worked various jobs to help support her family. In 1958, she completed her schooling and received her GED.
In 1950, Doris married Armand Boucher, and together they began their family in Winslow, Maine, where they welcomed daughters Lisa and Jean, who were the light of Doris’s life. Tragically, Armand passed away in a car accident in 1973. Later that year, Doris married Bernard Charrier, Sr. of St. Albans, Maine, and became a devoted stepmother to Bernard’s eight children. Doris embraced her expanded family and worked tirelessly to bring balance and structure to their lives, continuing to care for them even after her divorce in 1986.
Once the children graduated high school, Doris pursued a new career, becoming a certified nursing assistant. She worked as a private home health aide and at Sebasticook Valley Nursing Home while also tailoring clothes for members of her community. Doris was a loyal friend to many, an avid bowler, and a passionate literacy and hospice volunteer.
Doris moved to Arizona for the last 25 years of her life where she enjoyed the warm weather and no longer had to worry about the cold winters. Doris loved using FaceTime to stay in touch with her East Coast family. She kept pictures of all her children and grandchildren by her side. She also enjoyed spending time with a special friend, Penelope, who brought her communion each week.
Doris often said her purpose was raising her family and providing care and support to the children and grandchildren she loved so deeply. She is survived by her daughters: Jean Blum, Lisa Boucher, and stepchildren: Valarie Flanders, Dawn (Tim) Takeuchi, Ben (Sharon), Wayne (Darlene), Mary, and Terry Charrier; grandchildren: Jackson, Ellie, Amanda, Beth, Cody, Megan, Vaughn, Matthew, Abbie, Jordan, and Jared; as well as 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews. Doris was predeceased by her parents, brothers Lionel and Alire Girard, sisters Yvonne Girard and Marie Hartley, her first husband Armand Boucher, her stepdaughter Debby Beckwith Noonan, stepson David Charrier, and granddaughter Chini Beckwith.
In accordance with Doris’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A family gathering will take place in her honor this summer in Maine, where she will be laid to rest in the Girard family plot in Waterville, Maine.
