

Melvin Werre was born on December 25, 1936 in Roscoe, South Dakota to parents George and Emelia Werre. Melvin was their youngest son and one of eight siblings. He graduated HS in 1956 and served his country in the US Air Force for four years.
Melvin received an electrical engineering degree from South Dakota State University in 1966 and started a lifelong career in the aerospace industry. From 1966 to 1969, he went to Lockheed in Sunnyvale, CA to McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, MO and then LTV Corporation in Dallas, TX.
In 1971, Melvin went aboard the USS America as a civilian contractor servicing A-7 Corsairs manufactured by LTV. During a port visit to the Spanish island of Mallorca, Melvin met his future wife Silvia who was there on vacation. A few months later they were married in Milan on December 9, 1971. Melvin and Silvia settled in Arlington, TX and their only child, Michael Werre was born on August 26, 1972.
Melvin returned to Lockheed in 1977, first moving to Seabrook and later Alvin which were both near his office located next to the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Melvin worked on a variety of projects including the space shuttle before his retirement in 2003. In 2005, Melvin and Silvia moved to Miami, AZ to be closer to family and enjoy a more rural lifestyle.
Melvin was a lifelong practitioner of do it yourself projects which culminated in his building a home in Alvin and being very involved in the construction of the dome home at Top-of-the-World. He also enjoyed gardening, hiking and spending time with his family. Melvin passed away on October 17, 2021, aged 84.
Melvin is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years; Silvia Werre; his son, Michael Werre (Amy Carter); two grandchildren Ella & Ava Werre; his siblings, Betty Novotny, Ruth Lindemann, Marlene (Jerae) Dufloth and Milton Werre; and many nieces and nephews.
