

Norma Caroline Rebekka Scharpen passed away on December 11, 2011, in Mesa, Arizona. Born in Zumbrota Township, Minnesota, to Louis and Florence (Lohmann) Borgschatz, Norma arrived on December 3, 1922.
Norma graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1939. She attended Red Wing Teacher’s Training and eventually taught in a one room school house for children in first through eight grades. Later, Norma worked at Cash Food and Zumbrota Cheese Mart.
Norma married Forrest Scharpen on June 10, 1942 at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, Minnesota. She was a member of the Goodhue Lioness Club. Norma enjoyed playing cards, traveling and dancing.
Norma is survived by her daughters, Diane (Dale) Olson and Donna (Paul) Beyer; foster son, Lloyd (Audrey) Strawmatt; foster daughter in-law, Joan Strawmatt; sister, Naomi Moon; grandchildren, Eric, Dena, Jesse, Tammy, Ken, Lorel, Steven and Stacey; her great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Forrest; parents; sisters, Donna Marie, Ruth and Verna; foster brother, Carl Jorgenson; foster son, Gerald Strawmatt; and great grandson, Bailey.
A memorial service honoring Norma will be held at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park and Funeral Chapel on December 17, 2011 at 2:00 pm. Memorial Services will be held in Minnesota at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, Minnesota or to a charity of your choice.
