Pearl Eileen Hall was born to Dollie and Jerry Walker on Sept. 20, 1940 in Lamar, CO and was the second born of three daughters. She was raised on a small farm south of Vilas, CO where they had to shovel the sand off their back porch, kill rattlesnakes, and be up by 5am to feed the cows and pigs. Grandad Jerry was a farmer and Grandma Dollie stayed home to raise the girls and help maintain the home and farm. Mom and her sisters, Janie and Della Jean, had a special bond that they carried on throughout their lives.
Mom attended school in Vilas where she met Larry Hall in first grade. They attended school and graduated together but didn't start dating until they were at separate colleges. They were then married on August 7,1960 at the Vilas Friends Church. Mom and Dad started their lives in Boulder, CO where Dad was attending Colorado University and I was born in Boulder before they moved back to the farm east of Vilas.
Mom stayed home with me for several years and she truly was my best friend. We spent many hours playing the piano, making crafts, and baking. I always looked forward to harvest time when we would fix and take meals to the fields and help with driving the grain trucks to the elevator. She taught piano lessons from home and at one time worked part time at the Vilas school. She played the piano beautifully and was the pianist at Vilas Friends Church for many years. After I graduated high school, she worked for the Springfield mortuary where she made beautiful flower arrangements. She was always very creative and eventually took up painting. She painted many beautiful pieces throughout the years often depicting the beautiful Southwestern landscape. I always called on her to help decorate my homes, as she had a knack for decorating and pulling it all together.
Mom and Dad took up square dancing when I was in high school and numerous nights and weekends were spent enjoying dancing with friends and family. They started traveling to Phoenix, AZ for a few weeks every winter, then weeks turned to months, and eventually they sold their home and farmland in CO, built a home in Phoenix, and moved there permanently in 2010. Oh how she loved to dance, and I feel like I developed my own love of dancing through her! While in Arizona they made many close friends through square and round dancing and continued to dance until the pandemic in 2020, and there were times where they would go to 2 or 3 square dances in one day! They also enjoyed playing marbles, and spent many evenings hosting and attending marble parties.
She was blessed with two grandsons, Sawyer and Parker, and she thought that they hung the moon. She always found time to be with them even though we lived in different places. The boys have many fond memories of the farm playing croquet and riding tractors; then later in Phoenix playing in the pool, hiking, golfing, and attending baseball spring training games. She loved watching them play sports and her and Dad drove many, many miles to watch and root them on at their baseball and basketball games.
Mom was a devoted and loving wife, mom, and grandma, and she will be greatly missed, but we are thankful that her mind and body are restored and she is with her Savior Jesus Christ and free of these earthly pains and trials.
She was preceded in death by her sister Janie Glendening.
