OBITUARY

Peter Michael Dalecio

21 October, 193326 July, 2020

Pete was a friendly, good-humored, fair, honest and hard-working man. He participated fully in any endeavor in which he was involved, be it sports, clubs, community government, or even Halloween parties! He took pride in doing things well and instilled that value in generations of Little League Baseball players. Pete loved his family, his friends and his country. He was a good and true friend and will be sorely missed by many in Sun Lakes.

Over the past 26 years, Pete had been a member of the Palo Verde Men’s Golf Association, Cottonwood Tennis Club, Cottonwood Men’s Golf Association, Sun Lakes Pickleball Club and the Sun Lakes Italian-American Club. He served as Tournament Director, Publicist, Treasurer, Event Planner, etc. for many of the clubs and worked on the Sun Lakes Forum and the Cottonwood Palo Verde Finance Committee to advance Homeowners’ interests. Pete was also instrumental in changing the Cottonwood Palo Verde HOA By-laws to not permit the Association to charge fees to its homeowners for their use of the HOA’s amenities other than Golf and Food & Beverage.

Pete was born in San Francisco, CA, the oldest boy in a family of four boys and one girl. He started working at 9 years of age, peddling vegetables with his father. Back then, everybody worked to contribute to the family’s well-being. After high school, Pete enlisted in the US Navy. He was a radio man in the Navy and served four tours before he began raising a family in San Jose, CA. Pete was the sales manager for Roma Bakery for many years. He also worked as a manager for a Pepsi-Cola bottling plant in CA. He moved to Reno, NV in the 1980’s where he worked for a grocery broker and then as a sales representative for Procter & Gamble. Pete won national and local awards for “sales achievement and leadership in meeting P&G’s customers’ needs and exceeding their expectations.”

Pete met his wife, Kathleen Dalecio, while they were each promoting their company’s products to local retail buyers in Reno. He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Kathleen; a daughter, Denise Dalecio; granddaughter, Danielle Dalecio; his son, Robert Dalecio; grandson, Dario Dalecio; step-son, Brian Clowers and grandson, Vaughn Clowers.

Due to the problems created by the virus pandemic, Pete’s Celebration of Life is being postponed till safer conditions prevail. The Dalecio family is hoping to have an outdoor celebration for him on or near his birthday this year, October 21st. When plans can be finalized, notice of Pete Dalecio’s Celebration of Life will be announced here, on the Advantage Melcher Roses website. In the meantime, the family would love for you to share your own stories and fond memories about your experiences with Pete Dalecio in the comments section. Thank you.

PETER was an , “across the street” neighbor for at least 25 years. We “watched” each other’s houses when one of us was away A true reliable neighbor and friend. Hosted, for many years, a fabulous, Halloween party, which had strict rules. You better show up in a costume or thrown out. I won first prize one year for my costume and have a photo to prove it. . He was a great guy and i was privileged to be one of his friends.

Both Kathleen and Pete came to Bill Meads last get together at the Rennisance. I appreciated how Pete took the time to chat with Bill about their time in the service. Pete had a gentle soul. He always had a smile on his face through it all. Rest in Peace Pete. Say Hi to Bill for me!
Until we meet again.
With love,

Papason as I referred to as welcomed me into his family 16 years ago. Whenever Pete came over to our home to visit his son Bob he would always cook for us. Pete was an early riser so when I got up to have my coffee prior to leaving for work , I would sit and talk with Pete about everything, life, his family, his children, golfing, tennis, his friends. Papason knew everything about everything, if I ever had a question about cooking I would call Papason up and he would answer the phone by saying "what do you want now?" I truly admired the relationship he had with son. They were so close, they spoke to one another daily. One of my last conversations with Papason he told me "I had a great life, I have no complaints" I also remember telling him that my father was very absent in my life and I wish I had a father like him. Though it was one of the hardest days of my life I'm very blessed that I was there when Pete left this world. Pete was an exceptional man, a man of honor and respect. An honest man one that never minced words. I love you Papason and as I promised you on one of our last visits, we will take care of Kathleen.

Although we only knew Pete the last five years, we always enjoyed his and Kathleen’s company when we all got together. He always had a smile on his face and seemed to really enjoy life. He was an inspiration for sure. He will be truly missed in our neighborhood.

What a fun, nice person Pete was...always having time for you, and genuinely interested in people and what they were about. His contributions to the “greater good” of the community were amazing...just seemed to be in his DNA. IT was always an “upper” to run into him...and he will not be forgotten. Our heartfelt condolences to the family....roger and marie

Pete Dalecio was my best friend in Sun Lakes. We were friends for 26 years. He was as good a friend as anyone could ask for. I always knew Pete was there for me if I ever needed him and he knew the same a bout me.
I want to talk about two things the family didn't mention. First, Pete was a true Italian with a wonderful hot temper. Never was it directed at me, but more than once I prevented a fight. I remember once on the golf course Pete saw me use a plastic tee and said "those tees will scratch your driver". He then hit a bad shot and beat the ground repeatedly with his driver. Kathleen probably didn't even know about Pete's temper. Pete was a much better golfer than I was but he was always willing to play with me. In fact Pete and I won the overall two-man Member- Member Team Tournament in the Palo Verde Men's Club in 2013. Pete bet $2 on us to WIN and won $300. I bet on us to PLACE and got only $40.
The second great trait Pete had was cooking. I can't count the times Janet and I have eaten his beautifully prepared food at his house or delivered to our house. I think he really loved to cook and was always willing to share. Once on Thanksgiving we had prepared our own turkey, but he called and insisted that that we come to his house for a turkey dinner. Our turkey went into the refrigerator.
Janet and I really loved Pete an will miss his salty banter and his warm companionship.

Kathleen, our prayers and good wishes are being sent to you today as our hearts have been saddened by Pete's passing. Even though Pete prepared us for his passing, it was difficult for us when the time came. However, we know Pete is in a better place now as he was struggling so hard in his last days. We have known Pete for 40 years and yourself almost as long. I had the privilege of working with Pete as a competitor, friend, and an employee when I was able to hire him to work with me at Procter & Gamble, what a golden moment. We had many wonderful moments together and you know most of them. We will always cherish those moments in our continued thoughts of Pete. His memory will always be in our hearts.
