Revia Marie (Abshire) Stewart of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Omer, MI, passed peacefully to reunite with her heavenly family while under the loving care of her daughters and professional caregiver on Monday, November 6, 2023. She was 91 years old.
Revia was born on March 7, 1932, in Charley, KY to the late William and Edith (Dixon) Abshire.
Revia married the love of her life, James (Jimmy) Stewart on April 26, 1947, in Greenup, KY. Together they were the proud parents of six children, Carol, James, David, Thomas, Daniel, and Susan.
Revia cared deeply for her family and dedicated herself to raising her children. With only one child left at home, Revia went back to school and earned her degree in Mental Health from Oakland Community College in Michigan. Revia served for more than a decade on the Omer City Council and was proud to have played a role in the building of the Omer Little Eagles Nest Library.
Revia and Jimmy were devout in their Christian faith and were members of the Twining Baptist Church in Michigan for 30 years.
Revia was an intelligent woman with a quick wit. You had to be “on your toes” around her as she frequently had a clever remark ready to spring on you. She was an avid reader regularly finishing an entire book in a day. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, telling stories, laughing, and playing a variety of card games including Euchre. Revia played in many Euchre Tournaments while in Arizona and won first place in several consecutive events earning the nickname “Euchre Queen".
Everyone who was fortunate to meet her and get to know her fell in love with her smile and sense of humor. She was much more than a devoted wife, mom, and grandma; she was a friend, wonderful listener, and a trusted counselor.
Revia was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Jimmy Stewart and sons James and David.
She is survived by her children: Carol Stewart, Tom (Kim) Stewart, Dan Stewart (Tammy Idalski), Susan (Sam) Farah and daughter-in-law Pam (David) Stewart. Grandchildren: Jim (Laurie) Thomas, Leian (Curt) Mushlock, Bobby Thomas, Catherynn (Kevin) Spierling, Kevin (Nikki) Stewart, Jeni (Don) Walton, Sunnie Stewart, Dan (Jordan) Stewart, Melissa (Harold) Short, Jenna Farah along with many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Memorial for family and friends will take place on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at her granddaughter Catherynn Spierling’s home in Carp Lake, MI.
Friends and family wishing to honor Revia are invited to donate in her name to the Omer Little Eagles Nest Library and/or Twining Baptist Church.
