Robert S. Blumm of Tempe passed away in Banner Memorial Hospital on Sunday, October 24, 2021, of complications following a heart attack, at the age of 63. His heart failure was especially ironic, since throughout his life, no one had a bigger heart, nor a more empathetic attitude than Rob. He cared deeply about others and the community in which he lived. If you were his acquaintance, you were his friend. If you were his friend, you were his friend always. And if you didn’t know him, he’d give you money. He was always willing to help out the needy and the less fortunate. People down on their luck could count on his contributions on street corners and other places.
Robert was born to Charles and Margaret Blumm in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Wednesday, August 27, 1958. He attended high school in Pittsburgh and became a proud Penn State graduate in 1980 and a Nittany Lion for life. After guiding whitewater trips in New Mexico, he moved to Tempe in the late 1980s. Over the years, he sold artistic rugs, worked as an accountant for both Honeywell and Arizona State, marketed cable/internet services for Qwest, and operated his own accounting business. He was a 25-year spring training season-ticket holder for the Chicago Cubs and a frequent attender of Arizona Coyote games with his good friend, Don Cluett.
Robert’s parents predeceased him, and hopefully he is now reunited with them. He is survived by his brothers, Michael of Portland, Oregon, and Patrick, of Pilar, New Mexico; his cousin and guardian angel, Barbara Ann Wilson of Ann Arbor, Michigan; his favorite uncle, Robert Voss of Brandon, Florida., three nieces and nephews, Maggie, of Tempe, Arizona; Nicky, of Portland, Oregon, and Aria, of Tucson, Arizona; as well as his longtime best friend, Kurt Riefner, of Taos, New Mexico, all of whom will miss his unfailing kindness and his perpetual generosity. Rob was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Tempe. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Tempe, Arizona for whom he was a frequent volunteer.
