Sarah LaVerne Marsh Holaway was born February 26, 1926 in Marana, Arizona. She passed away at the age of 94 on May 20, 2020 while under hospice care in Mesa Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Robert (Bob) Owen Holaway and a daughter, Susan Irene Dittman.
Sarah graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing, Tucson, in 1947 and spent her adult life in the field of intensive care nursing. She and Bob traveled the world and enjoyed the Air Force life in many countries and throughout the states.
Sarah was an avid lover of the outdoors, camping, hiking, rafting, horseback riding and bird watching. She loved the Arizona desert, sunsets, and southwest cuisine.
Her son George put it this way: “Trying to summarize my mom’s life, and what she meant to me, would be like filling a jar with love, watching a sunset alone, caging an angel. When I read her diaries, my heart swells. And I smile. I know her selflessness and dedication. Remember her perseverance and strength. Feel her warmth and love. She grew up dirt poor. Endured a nation at war. Survived the lonely hardships as a military wife. Raised six kids. And loved it all. And mom loved my dad so very, very much. Mom was an angel in disguise. And now she is free. Mom is home. Hallelujah!”
She is survived by her brother George Marsh, and children JoAnn, Barb (Tom Hensleigh), Cindy (Greg Vatt), George (Patti) and Robert (Molly), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sarah will be missed by all who knew her. The Holaway family would like to thank everyone for your love and prayers during this time.
