Nona came into my life when I was around 16 and immediately I knew she was right for my dad. She introduced me to her kids and her daughter Angie and I became the best of friends , became a mother at the age of 20 and she helped me so much being a new mom and my sister Angie have a son a few years older then my son they became instant best friends too. Nona and I have had our ups and downs but deep down she was the mother I needed and wanted in my life! I could always call nona and she would help me out of a situation or problem with her calm and soothing voice! She was the best grandma for my son and their bond was absolutely amazing! I will definitely miss my mom! I love you mom, please watch over me always

Winonah was a loving daughter-in-law. We welcomed her into the Scruggs family with thanksgiving and gratitude for the love she had for David. Jerry immediately fell in love with her and she had so much love and kindness for him. He and I attended their wedding in Las Vegas and we saw how well she blended in with our family. She was a precious soul and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
It was my great honor to be her friend and mother-in-law. 
May God bless her on the wonderful life she lived and the love she had for her family and friends.

Nona always seemed to call me Michael George or little brother even thou I was a foot taller and many pounds heavier. Although she was small in stature, she held her ground when confronted. Growing up we had a big and loving family while living on Meyers Rd in Drayton Plains, MI. Having a lake as your back door gave as all many activities to keep us busy in the 60's but not out of trouble. What kids do when they are told to stay out and come home when the street lights come on you can only imagine. I think we only had one in the whole neighborhood. My first memories of Nona are backed up by old photos by the mother we shared. I really don't remember at what age       I found out that my dad had adopted her along with Laura and Tony, but that didn't matter, we were a family. At Sashabaw Jr. High Nona would bring records and play them during lunch time.  Times have changed for sure. Nona a one time lived in an old farm house that was near a water tower next the Ukrainian camp and worked across the street at Quick Pic and I saw her a lot because I worked at the Pizzeria next door. March of '80 I rode with her to Rose City where she needed my help with the cabin she had. I think she thought that because I was in the Building Trades that year it would be a breeze. A couple years later she moved to Phoenix and I thought "when will I see her again?" Early '85 I took my first commercial flight to see her and she picked me up with her white truck. A few years later when I had a business trip she picked me up again. I think it was the same truck. When she married Dave it was a big family trip where we all went to Vegas to witness a new adventure in her life. Nona a Dave had a great life together and I'm thankful they were able to come back to Michigan to visit and be there for Steve's wedding and the reception a my house. I want to remember Nona not as all the health issues she has had the past few years, but as a Big Sister who loved me even though we were many miles apart. 

I met Winonah at a company I just got hired into, Tech Paulson in 1991. We soon discovered that we grew up less than 50 miles from each in Michigan.  Then in 1994 we both seemed to have divorced our spouses almost simultaneously. 
Fast forward to 1997 and I asked you out. We went on that first date and I thought it went great? But you had other ideas and refused to talk to me again through text, email, phone and voice mail so I quit trying. Then about a year after that first date you contacted me (coaxing from Laura) and we tried again. This time it stuck and I asked you to marry me on Feb 2nd 2000. We were married on Cinco De Mayo 2001 in Vegas and this started our adventures. 

I’ll always love you, I still talk to you every evening. It took me awhile to stop being quite Incase you were sleeping. I keep your light on for comfort. I am proud to be your husband. 

when i was little i always used to get so excited when i would get to see you, the idea of seeing nana was like getting gold it was the best thing on the whole planet. you always knew how to make me smile and laugh but you were also  a shoulder to cry on, someone to talk to, and you always kept me in check. i’ll never forget our memories laughs cry’s and all the in between you’re forever and ever in my thoughts n heart. having you as a nana was such a gift from the universe and i’ll be forever grateful for you and the impact you had on mine any many others lives. i love you unconditionally i’ll miss you forever.

Dear Big Sister,
I miss you dearly Nona. Your spirit will always be with me through the memories we shared. It was truly a blessing growing up with you living on the lake. Early on you played the piano. You inspired me to follow in your footsteps and that's what introduced me to music at such an early age. To this day, I play several instruments and I owe it all to you. It was hard when mom passed in 1974. You and Laura had to step up and fill mom's shoes the best you could. You basically raised me as a kid and because of that I always looked up to you. Years later you moved next door to the Ukrainian camp where Laura and Todd lived. Those were the best years we had as a family. So many cherished memories and our family was the closest it had ever been. As an adult, you moved to Arizona but I felt we always stayed close over the years. The Lord decided to take you home early. As hard as that is, I know that one day I will see you again in heaven. Nona you will be greatly missed but you will always live inside my heart. I WILL ALWAYS  LOVE YOU!

As I look back on the years, I begin to understand all my life you have loved me unconditionally with no judgment only as a mother can. I see the love that surrounded me and coddled me  the countless sleepless night you had the scrape knees and hurt feelings your hugs and kisses magically made right, you're smile and you're soft kisses on my forehead always made things better. you're voice of reason and guidance when I really needed you you're always there!! The  days spent together talking about something important or nothing at all, just to have you close by you are my best friend. As a young girl the many times we went without or I should say you went without so you could give to me, you always did everything to build a better life for me you're endless love has made a difference in who I have become!!! The love you have given me my entire life has come full circle and now I love and honor you, more then I could ever express. You have always been in my heart and my soul you will continue to live there till the day I die for all that you have done for me and all that you will continue to do even though you're in heaven,  Please watch over us as you always have,, I'm going to miss your hugs and your kisses that I get every time I come to see you, Rest easy mama and I'll see you again. Winonah was such an animal lover! She was such a wonderful part of our family for so long, it seems like she always was. She is deeply missed.
