

Lawrence Jackson “Larry” Calvert
March 19, 1927 -- October 7, 2023
Larry Calvert, age 96, of Heath, Texas, departed this mortal life Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Broadmoor Medical Lodge in Rockwall, TX under family and hospice care.
Larry was born on March 19, 1927, in Cleburne, Texas. He served our country in the Navy and later retired from Ling-Temco-Vaught of Grand Prairie, Texas after 35 years, having worked on many important space exploration projects as well as Air Force One. He then opened Calvert Shutters of Heath, Texas where he was owner/operator for several years. As with the shutters, our mom often said, “dad could build or fix anything”. He was an elder for several years at the Scyene church of Christ and was a member of the Forney church of Christ at the time of his death. He led singing for each of his church families and loved singing praises to God. He sang at many weddings and funerals over the years and sang “The Hawaiian Wedding Song” to our mom at their 50th wedding anniversary celebration. He was a talented musician, as he could play many instruments by ear, including the piano, the guitar, and the harmonica, often taking requests from friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert S. and Jesse M. Calvert, his wife of 56 years, Mary Nell, his three sisters, Cleo Jernigan, Volita Murphree and Ann Busby, one brother, who died soon after birth and a great granddaughter, Sydney Parsons.
He is survived by his two sons, Lawrence Jackson Calvert, Jr. and wife Karen of Texarkana, Texas, Arthur Samuel Calvert and his wife Laura of Heath, Texas, daughter Christy Freeman of Austin, Texas, granddaughter Megan Elizabeth Parsons and her husband Antony of Liberty Hill Texas, grandson Blake Jackson Calvert and wife Blakely of Austin, Texas, granddaughter Trista Calvert, of Heath, Texas, grandson Samuel Calvert of Fischer, Texas, granddaughter Kristy Gail Jones of Rowlett, Texas, Paul Ray Jones of Azle, Texas, and Amy Marie Shepherd of Garland, Texas. There were numerous greatgrandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends and christian family members.
Burial arrangements will be handled by Anderson Clayton Gonzalez Funeral Home, 1111 Military Pkwy., Mesquite, TX. Burial will be at Laurel Land Cemetery, South Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas.
