Paula Rae Downs, age 72, of Mesquite, Texas passed away on Monday April 1, 2019. Paula was born January 22, 1947 in Los Angeles, California to parents Robert and Mary Vicars. Paula worked in various careers throughout her life. She worked at Southwestern Bell for over 18 years. Paula was known for being one of the developers of the Museum for the Telephone Pioneers of America. She also drove the tram at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark. In 2002 she became an activities director for a nursing home where she met a veteran named Clancy Downs, from which she became an advocate for the American Veterans.
Paula was full of life and never met a stranger. She enjoyed watching movies, especially her favorite, Gone with the Wind. She loved singing, dancing, and attending the Dallas Summer Musicals. Paula was very crafty and she loved embroidering. The most important part of Paula's life was her family and she especially loved her children and grandchildren.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings. She is survived by her daughter Scarlet Stewart, son John Holt and wife Christy, grandchildren Keaghan and Kamdyn Holt, sister in law Teresa Vicars, nieces and nephews Paul Vicars IV, Mary Faythe Wilton, James Vicars, Charlie Vicars, Sarah Vicars, and Hayley Vicars.
A Memorial Service for Paula will be held Monday, April 8, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home, 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite, TX 75149.
A second Memorial Service will occur in Seguin, Texas at a later date and time.
