Ray Dean Phillips, loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend and Brother in Christ, passed from this life on September 18, 2023 peacefully in his sleep. Ray was born to parents R.T. and Hildegard Phillips in Groesbeck, Texas on October 21, 1939. Ray was the oldest of three boys. He and his precious soulmate, Loretta Ann Hammons, eloped when Loretta was 16 and Ray was 17. That happy union grew for 65 years and was exemplary of Christ’s definition of love and marriage. They became loving parents to their only child, a daughter, Carmon Beth who was born November 21, 1961.
Ray has long been known for his “rascal” sense of humor. He was a big kidder and King of Cut Ups. His wide contagious smile was always a “Ray” of sunshine and he never turned down key lime pie and Blue Bell ice cream and he never met a stranger. He had a strong love of family and a heart for the Lord. He always put those first.
Following graduation, Ray worked for Central Freight Lines in Houston for many years and then transferred to Central Freight Lines in Waco Texas where he was the Accounts Receivable Manager for many years.
Ray and Loretta relocated to Mesquite, Texas where Ray worked for
Avnet before retirement.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, R.T. and Hildegard Phillips, his youngest brother, Dennis, and Ray’s wife, Loretta, and their daughter, Carmon Beth Slatton.
Ray is survived by his only grandchild, John Patrick Riley and wife Sarah, his brother Ronnie Phillips and wife Pat, sisters-in-laws Evelyn Guinn, Kathy Strickland, Cynthia Matchett and husband Jerry, and many nieces and nephews.
