Robert Scott Holt, known to most as “Scotty”, passed away on Friday December 17 in his beloved city of Dallas. Scotty was born and raised in Pleasant Grove and proudly referred to himself as a “grovite” til his dying day. He grew up in the Urbandale church community and graduated from W W Samuell High School in 1970. Enrolling in El Centro college before eventually entering the police academy, Scotty went on to serve in the Dallas Police Department for 37 years. In his time there he rose to the rank of Senior Corporal, contributed largely to many positive developments and policy changes within the department, and trained over 200 officers that became his honorary children. He made it a point to truly know the people on his beat and had a personal investment in their safety and wellbeing. Though he had resided in Mesquite the past couple decades, nobody loved Dallas more than Scotty. He was a long time supporter of the Dallas Summer Musicals, the Perot Museum, and the Dallas Zoo; until the pandemic he had never missed a State Fair of Texas in his life; he was a volunteer columnist for the Dallas Morning News; he would tell anyone who would listen about the history of his favorite city, especially the assassination of President Kennedy (one of his sisters was actually in the Warren Commission Report). A perfect night for Scotty involved driving through Deep Ellum and Uptown with his bride and watching the sunset over White Rock Lake. He loved life and he loved family. Scotty leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Kathryn Holt; 3 children, Cassandra Ann Holt Kimbell and husband Chris, Sara Elizabeth Boukhari and husband Joe, and Joseph Scott Holt; 2 granddaughters, Betty and Lilly; 2 sisters, Tricia Powell and Jeanne Holder; and dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins.. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in his name to the Assist the Officer Foundation, an organization that helps the families of injured or fallen officers.
