Born on January 7, 1940, to the late Leonard Scardino and Ruth Chatelain, Adele was raised in the Carrollton section of New Orleans by her grandmother, Mary Mano Scardino, affectionately known as Mother Dear, and two loving aunts, Adele Faulkner (and her husband Stephen Faulkner) and Eleanor Scardino.
After graduating from Incarnate Word Grammar School and the Academy of the Holy Angels (Class of 1958), Adele joined the Marianite Sisters of the Holy Cross. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in Algiers and her master’s degree in education from Loyola University in New Orleans.
Adele spent more than three decades as a beloved teacher who touched the lives of thousands of children in elementary schools throughout the New Orleans area. She began teaching in Catholic schools, as Sister Mary Pacelli M.S.C., and later as a lay teacher in public and private schools, most recently, at G.T. Woods in Kenner and Airline Park in Metairie.
A devoted wife and mother, Adele enjoyed gardening, traveling and going to the casinos. She and husband Larry took a memorable trip to Italy that included visiting relatives living in Palermo and Alia. They also traveled to Vermont, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Gulf Coast, where Adele loved playing the slots and sometimes was happy to be a big winner.
Adele will be remembered for her easy smile and kind and gentle disposition, traits that remained with her even as she declined in health due to dementia.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Lawrence Guccione, and brother, Steve Faulkner, Jr. She is survived by two children, Joseph Guccione of New Orleans and Beth Guccione-Alonzo of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Talan and Brayden Roppolo of Metairie; and her forever friend, Myrna Abadie Gorman, who had stayed in her life ever since elementary school.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. The Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by the Rev. Clayton J. (Beau) Charbonnet III, pastor of Adele’s home parish of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Cypress Grove Cemetery, 120 City Park Ave., New Orleans.
