

Ana Carolina Mena Baide was born on October 8, 1936, in Santa Bárbara, Honduras. She was the fourth child of ten siblings, in a very loving and respected family. Caroly, as known by her family and friends, is predeceased by her parents, Doctor Emigdio Mena Quiróz, and Cecilia Baide vda. de Mena (Chilita); her brothers, Luis Alonso and Marco Antonio, her youngest sister Dolly Mena de Sánchez, and her aunt Carmen Mena Quiróz. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Anderson Mena de Avila (Oscar), her son Richard C. Anderson Mena (Karla), her grandson Oscar David Avila Anderson, her granddaughters Nicole Carolina Avila Anderson and Nicolle Yadvana Anderson Dunaway; her brothers, Angel Ramón (Tinita), José Moises (Alba), Benjamín Alirio (Francisca), Ramiro Alcídes (Carmen Susana); her sisters María Cecilia, and Rosa América Mena Baide; her sister-in-law Nora Carías vda. de Mena and her brother-in-law Ferdinando Sánchez García.
Caroly was 84 years old when she passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She lived in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and was visiting for the holidays. She was planning to spend a few months with her daughter Carol and her family. Her passing was quite sudden and unexpected, as she was mostly a healthy person and was always taking good care of herself.
Growing up in Santa Bárbara, she went to school to Instituto Departmental La Independencia obtaining a Technical Diploma in Accounting in 1953. Later, she achieved her degree in Economics from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras, while simultaneously holding a fulltime job. Caroly was a proud member of the Honduras Association of Economists. In her professional life, she held several executive and managerial positions in the banking industry (Banco Central de Honduras, Banco Atlántida), Honduras government agencies (BANADESA, IHCAFE, Ministerio de Finanzas) and other international agencies (USA-AID).
Caroly lived a life full of happiness and joy, alongside her family, friends, church, and community. Because of her faith and caring nature, she was always concerned for the wellbeing of others. She was a faithful member of the Grupo de Oración “Madre de Cristo” de la Parroquia de Santa de Jesús at Colonia 15 de Septiembre in Tegucigalpa, where she served as Treasurer.
She had a beautiful, warm smile, as well as the gift of befriending people of all ages. She was an energetic traveler, who enjoyed voyaging around the world, in addition to visiting her family and friends in several cities in Honduras, and the USA.
Caroly was an extraordinarily loving mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She always encouraged her family to love God, each other, and their neighbors. Caroly instilled values of education and always encouraged people to be the best that they can be. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, who used to go to Honduras to spend their summer vacations with her. In general, Caroly was a constant foundation of strength and love for her family in the good times and showing her loving support in troubled times. She was overjoyed when she was virtually serenated for her birthday on October 8th thru Zoom. After arriving in New Orleans, she delighted in the opportunity to participate in other family members’ virtual serenades.

The mass will be also live streamed for her family and friends abroad. Caroly’s remains will eventually be transported and buried next to her mother, Cecilia Baide vda. de Mena (Chilita), in Jardínes de Paz Suyapa in Tegucigalpa.
Ana Carolina Mena Baide will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, along with her siblings, nephews, nieces, friends, and coworkers.
