Billy G. Whittenberg

Captain B.G. Whittenberg, age 85, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Captain Whittenberg was a native of Aldrich, MO and a resident of Metairie, LA for 27 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Sandra Moore Whittenberg for the past 25 years. Father of June Buras, Kathy Melilli (Dan), Brenda Whittenberg and the late James Edward Whittenberg and Ray Gene Whittenberg. Stepfather of John H. Little (Monica) and Mary Persigo (Mark). Grandfather of Brittany, Allison, Alex Whittenberg and Brian Smith. Great grandfather of Madison O’Neal. Brother of Dan Whittenberg (Mary) and Doris Evans. Uncle of Michael Whittenberg, Roger and Donna Evans. Son of the late Hurshel Ray Whittenberg and Ammie Ann Thompson Whittenberg. Captain Whittenberg was a ship pilot, retiring after 40 years of employment. He was a member and past president of the New Orleans Baton Rouge Pilot Association and was a WWII Marine veteran. Captain Whittenberg’s passion was traveling. He traveled all 50 states, the seven major continents and visited the seven Wonders of the World. Captain Whittenberg’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Guardian Angel Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion. Private services were held on Tuesday afternoon, July 3, 2012 at 3:30 PM at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel.
