Byron Joseph Farbe

On the morning of January 24, 2023 at 5:30 AM Byron Joseph Farbe passed away at his beloved home in Lacombe, Louisiana with his devoted wife, Peggy, at his side. He was 83 years old. Byron was born in Big Bend, Louisiana on May 11, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lena Mitchell Farbe; his first wife Charlene McFarland Farbe, the mother of his two children; his sister, Carol F. Melancon; and his brother, Charlie Farbe.
He graduated from East Jefferson High School and he served in the U. S. Coast Guard. He graduated from Delgado Community College in Mechanics and was then hired by Metairie Ford to work as a mechanic and a Service Advisor.
Byron started his own successful business, Farbe’s Towing Service, growing that business to include the operation of two service stations. Later he opened Farbe’s Fleet Service, a business which handled auto repair and salvage recovery. He was passionate about his work and chose never to retire.
He loved going out to dinner with Peggy, family and friends. Over the years, he took breaks to enjoy his hobbies of drag racing, motorcycling, boating and fishing. He loved spending time at his Bayou Lacombe home with his wife, which was a gathering spot for family and friends. Byron had a very generous heart and cherished his family.
Byron is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Lynn Knieper; his children, Gregory Farbe (Susan) and Dwayne Farbe (Molly); his five grandchildren, Kate Ruggles (Thomas), Ross Farbe (Sarah), Genevieve Farbe, Connor Farbe and Evan Farbe; and two great grandchildren, Margot and Freddie Ruggles; his sister, Lois F. Lazair; and his brothers, Alton Farbe (Elaine) and Robert Farbe, Jr. (Carol).
Byron will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Visitation beginning at 2 p.m. and the service begins at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
