

Carl L. "Smitty" Smith, Sr., age 90 passed away on April 23, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Roy Smith, Sr., and Leona Appel Smith, Sr., his loving wife of 59 years Sylvia Mae Graff Smith. He is survived by Keith Smith (Shannon), Karen Gifford (Russell), Trudy Davenport (Joe), Taryn Gahagan (Matt), Stacy Morris (Mark) and Carl Smith, Jr. (Lisa), grandchildren Ryan Smith, Kendall Flynt (Rob), James Gifford, Joey Davenport, Myles Gahagan, Kelly Morris, Markie Morris and Brice Miller, great grand-children, Reagan Flynt, Madison Flynt, Cora Rodriguez, Heidi Rodriguez, Cyrus Clark and Lilith Faulkner.
He served in the Merchant Marines at the end of World War II. Smitty worked 30 years at American Standard as a caster in New Orleans. His hobbies included painting signs and woodwork engraving. He was an avid Saints and LSU fan who always wore a smile and was ready to tell you a joke and feed you. He was a loving family man, who loved bringing joy to others by being Santa Claus for the past 40 years. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, April 29 at 11:00 am at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, Louisiana. Visitation with the family will be held between 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Online messages of condolences may be left at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.
