It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles "Ike" Herbert Eisenbraun, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Ike passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on February 11, 2026, at Ochsner Kenner Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on October 19, 1936, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ike was the cherished son of Ida and Herbert Eisenbraun. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dodi, and his brother Bob. Ike leaves behind a legacy of love and joy in the hearts of his surviving family members: his devoted wife of almost 60 years, Christine Eisenbraun; his children, Tony (Liz), Terry (Jennifer), Kelli (Michael Armanini), Tina (Barry Carr), and Kari; his seven grandchildren, Sebastian, Rebecca, Stephanie, Nicole, Lauryn, Maxwell, and Nataleigh and his four siblings, Kenny Eisenbraun, Shirley Dufrene, Sharon Kendall, Larry Eisenbraun.
Ike and Christine's love story began in England, where they were married on April 7, 1966. Together, they embraced the life of a military family, living in various countries and states as Ike served his country with dedication and honor. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Ike was honorably discharged after 22 years of service, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. His service included working diligently in communications during the Vietnam War.
Upon retiring from the military, Ike & his family moved to Metairie where he was employed in retail for the remaining of his work years at JCPenney in Lakeside Mall and Macy's in the Esplanade Mall. He retired in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina.
Ike was a man of many interests. He found joy in collecting stamps and coins from around the world. Music filled his soul, whether he was drumming, singing with his beautiful voice, tapping his feet, or dancing along to his favorite tunes. Ike was known for his corny jokes, impersonations of Porky Pig and Clint Eastwood. He had an infectious smile that could light up a room. He brought warmth and comfort to those around him, never calling anyone by their name but instead using endearing terms like "sweetheart," "darlin," or "son." He never met a stranger. He enjoyed watching the Saints and local college teams and was often heard exclaiming, "Woot there it is!" in celebration of a touchdown or even a homerun. His simple pleasures included jellybeans, milkshakes, popcorn, and cookies, and chit chatting with his friends over a cup of coffee from McDonald's. He loved nothing more than sitting on his backyard porch, regardless of the weather, with a cup of coffee, a cigarette, and the company of birds as he listened to his favorite radio talk shows.
Ike's life will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, coinciding with the anniversary of his wedding to Christine, honoring the love and life they shared for almost 60 years. Visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home will start at 9:00 am and conclude with military honors at 11:00 am. As we gather to remember him, we hold in our hearts the memory of a man who lived with love, laughter, and a profound kindness that touched everyone he met. Ike's legacy is one of unwavering devotion to his family, his country, and the simple joys of life. Rest in peace, dear Ike. Your love and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew you.
