It is our loss to lose such a special man.  I was unable to attend due to a surgery,  Finally , on my feet again and doing well. I will always remember my years with Doug and now I will remember is entry to heaven as it coincides with my cancer anniversary.  Much love to his family.

I have just learned of Doug's passing and I wish all the best for his extended family.
Doug helped introduce me to New Orleans when I moved there after college in 1982. We were good friends and coworkers and spent several great Mardis Gras in the French Quarter..I know that he is missed.

I just heard of my good friend Doug's passing yesterday, and am truly devastated.  I worked with Doug for many years at NCR and enjoyed many good times with him. In fact, we were roommates for years.  I hadn't seen him in a few years, but often speak of him and our good times together.  He was affectionatly known to me and our group of friends as "Dougmeister".  Doug left an indelible impression on my life, and now a big hole in my heart.

Doug was awesome! I was told I did a good imitation of him. We used to hang out at this Irish pub in the Carmel Mountain area of San Diego - Him, Shirley, Karen V-B, and sometimes Ilona. He was VERY generous, and always loved to buy rounds of drinks. I went to his 60TH Birthday party in Ranchita, and remarked that he looked 10 years younger. We definitely need more Douglas J. Lanes in this world.

I am so sorry for your loss, and to Shirley, thank you...for it is through you that I got to meet Doug.  He was ALWAYS so happy, and if even half the people on this earth could ever be as happy as he was...the world would be a much better place.  Doug touched everyone's hearts that knew him...I will never forget the picnic at Sea World and how he knew how to go thru the lines fast...two to three times until they would not let us anymore...that was a beautiful day.   He was a happy man....and I am going to learn from him!  Karen Vanderheyden-Brown

My heart hurts with Doug's passing, my close friend, we shared so many wonderful times, he was always open, honest, included me on the honey do list and helped take care of my dog Roki and home.  I too like to remember Doug with his big smile and deep growl voice.  My thoughts, prayers and Gods blessing goes out to my dearest friend Shirley, Rachel and Reggie who I just met to share some memories my deepest sympathy to you and your family.

When I heard the news of Doug's passing, the words to a Bruce Springsteen song immediately came to mind: "Now the world is filled with many wonders under the passing sun; And sometimes something comes along and you know it's for sure the only one; The Mona Lisa, the David, the Sistine Chapel, Jesus, Mary, and Joe;
And when they built you, brother, they broke the mold."

Yes, indeed, Doug Lane was one unique individual and he certainly lived life "out loud." And when he blew into town, it was kind of like a hurricane coming across the Gulf. You knew it was going to be exciting and you knew there was going to be damage. The question was, just how much?

Through my sister, Lori Milson, I have now known Doug for more than half my life, and one thing is sure: If Doug Lane was your friend, he wasn't your friend for a day or week or month. He was your friend for LIFE.

So rest assured Shirley and the Lane family, that when we get together with Lori and Gary up at Put in Bay this summer, there will be stories told, songs sung and a rousing toast made in the honor of the legendary Doug Lane. 

Godspeed, Doug!! (I was going to say "rest in peace," but we know that ain't gonna happen!)

May your memories of the wonderful times you shared with your loved one comfort you and your family, today and always.

Reggie and Rachael, my sincere sympathies for the loss of your dad.  I have known Doug since I was friends with your Mom in High School, and I still remember the day seeing Doug's great smile showing us Reggie when he was born.  He had such a great smile all the time.  I know Doug is in Heaven where God has called another Angel to watch over his fiance Shirley, his family, friends, along with your Mom.  God Bless you all.

I knew Doug for more than 25 years.  His love of life and fun, positive demeanor were infectious.  I was crushed when I heard the news and am still having a hard time accepting it.   

Doug brought a lot of energy, joy, and laughter into the lives of the people around him and I'm certain he is in a good place now hanging out with both his, and my, friend Rocky.

Every time I think of Doug, I smile.  He was a pleasure to work with and a good friend.  Doug was a great mentor and I will miss him.

I've known Doug on a casual basis for many years.  We have spent countless hours just chatting, sharing jokes, debating many topics, and tons of laughter.

In the last two years, we got to know each other much better, and discussed some pretty serious topics.  We bounced thoughts off each other and learned from the exchanges.

One thing for sure that he focused on, was his love of family and friends.  He spoke of Mom, his sibblings, his kids and grandkids.  Rest assured, he cared for all of you deeply.

Special note to Reggie, Rachel and Shirley....I'm glad we were able to meet at Conway's, which allowed me to express my sympathy for your loss, and share a few comments.  He was a good Man.

Shirley, Ms Mary, Reggie, Rachel and families, Russ and I send our deepest sympathy during the loss of your beloved fiance, son, dad and grandpa.  Doug was a unique individual whom we met through our brother, "Rocky" Graziano.  They both worked for NCR and hung out when in the same city. Doug brought much laughter to our family.  He will be sadly missed and we can only imagine how your hearts must ache.   We send love, sympathy, prayers and hugs to all of you.

Reggie, Rachel, Bill, Ms Mary, Shirley, my prayers go out to you. Doug will be missed greatly. He was always the life of the party. I will never forget Christmas Eve with the fire extinguisher or the countless times he threw me in the bayou. Doug we miss you.

Doug was a great neighbor and longtime friend. We cannot believe he is gone. My sons will miss him and the many times we went water-skiing. He will be missed more than he can know.

Our next luau will be in his memory.

Our prayers are with Doug's family and friends.  Doug was a unique individual who loved and lived life on his own terms.  We met in 1974 while with NCR and i am proud to say we were instant friends.  The world will miss him!

Doug and I worked together at NCR in San Diego for a few years.  Although I haven't seen him since I retired in 1991, I remember him well, and count myself fortunate to have been able to share a few laughs with him.  If he was ever angry or up-tight, I never saw it.  When he spoke, his voice had a clear, steady, golden-toned quality that matched his personality.

He was a great friend. Will miss him greatly,  especially on Fridays.

We NCR folks, who worked and "played" with Doug for many years during and after his tenure with NCR extend our sincere condolences. As associates of the infamous "Friday Investment Club" we were shocked to learn of his passing, just days after our last meeting. Know that Doug was a highly respected systems engineer, and one hell of guy to party with. Ask anyone about the 150 pound crayfish boil, including 50 pounds of Louisiana shrimp that was air freighted to San Diego, for a party! We'll miss Doug, as he made an indelible mark on our lives and on our souls. He's probably arranging a Cajun crayfish feast up there!

to the lane family:  my fondest memories of doug are our first trip to cancun in 1977 and our 3wk. trip to europe in 1978. he was a wonderful friend with a heart of pure gold.  we had a lot more trips together but those two were my favorites. although we hadn't been together much in the last yrs, he lliving in cal. and i in N.C. i still hate the idea that i can't see him if i want to.
