Edward J. Evans, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in Metairie, Louisiana, on Sunday, August 31st at 7:00 a.m. He was born on April 22, 1950, in Kyoto, Japan, to the late Edward J. Evans, Sr., from New Orleans, and Toshiko Shibata Evans from Tokyo, Japan.
Eddie owned and operated his own business, Evans Automotive, where he worked as an Automotive Technician. He approached his craft with exceptional skill and integrity. Eddie was known for his kind heart, great sense of humor, and unwavering kindness. He left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He was a supportive father, always present, dependable, loving, and caring. He had a deep passion for antique cars, "oldies" music, and World War history. He even won several competitive dart competitions over the years.
Eddie enjoyed his hobbies such as ironwork, watching his beloved New Orleans Saints play, and collecting historic firearms. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and worked as a shooting range instructor. Eddie was also a proud member of the National WWII Museum, which he loved visiting with friends and grandchildren.
Eddie is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Alicia Cevallos Knight; his two children, Jennifer Evans Smith (husband Chad Smith) and Glenn Ryan Evans, Sr. (wife Brandi Labruzzo); and stepchildren Freddy Xavier Almeida (wife Leslie Joanos), Alicia Mercedes Rivas, and Carlos Jose Almeida (wife Kenleigh Tippet).
He was a loving grandfather to Kallista Alexa Evans, Glenn Ryan Evans Jr., Brodie James Evans, Sean Michael Richard Jr., Brandon Edward Richard (wife Riley Matlock), Seth John Wehner, Shelby Lynne Smith, Alexis Victoria Gagnon, Nolan Xavier Almeida, Valerie Grace Gagnon, Addison Sofia Rivas, Charleigh Grace Almeida, and Camille Edith Almeida.
He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Olivia Madison Richard and Drew Cameron Richard, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA 70006. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will continue from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm after the Mass.
