Elizabeth Salvaggio Mixon, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2017. Mrs. Mixon was born on June 10, 1928 in New Orleans to Anthony and Virginia Salvaggio. She was the sister of Bernard, Ross and Rosalie Salvaggio. Liz was first and foremost a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, as well as a cherished friend to all that knew her. As a 1948 graduate of St. Mary’s Dominican High School, she excelled academically and developed lifelong friendships with “Lizzie’s Lovelies,” who did their best to stay out of any serious trouble. A devout Catholic and member of St. Clement of Rome Parish, Mrs. Mixon never tired of supporting God and the Church. Among her many volunteer duties, Mrs. Mixon served terms as St. Clement’s Ladies’ Guild President, Visitation Committee Chair, and as an organizer of the annual Rosary Rally. Thirty-five years ago, Mrs. Mixon became a founding member of St. Clement’s Divine Mercy Prayer Group; she had attended the group’s weekly prayer meetings until the very last week. Mrs. Mixon also volunteered many hours at the Father Francis Xavier Seelos Center, tirelessly gathering donations for the annual silent auction fundraiser. Mrs. Mixon was an organizer extraordinaire, both in her volunteer work and at home, where she regularly hosted delicious Italian family dinners for forty or more. Mrs. Mixon is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, J.C.; her beloved sister, Rosalie; her daughter Virginia and stepchildren Richard, Martha and Claude; her son-in-law, Eric, and daughters-in-law, Donna and Judy; her grandchildren, Karin, Clifton, Nelson, Steven, Elin, Aidan and Thomas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be missed. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at St. Clement of Rome Church, 3990 West Esplanade Ave. in Metairie, LA at 1 p.m., with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The online guestbook is available at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, Masses may be offered or donations made to the Seelos Center.
