

She was born August 21, 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Rev. Dave and Surlone Harrell Norwood. Though short lived, she was married the late Frederick Leo Doakes.
Evelina graduated from Booker T. Washington Sr. High School and went on to received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Dillard University. She was an educator for Orleans Parish School Board for 40 years at Colton Jr. High School and Frederick Douglas Sr. High School. Her fond memories of the lives she transformed through education remained with her until her passing.
She loved spending time with her family, enjoyed shopping, and had a presence that could light up a room whenever she entered.
She is survived her daughter; Cassandra D. Langston (Offord), sons; Roderick K. Doakes (Tonia) and Kelsey A. Cooper, Sr. (Angelle), sisters; Celestine N. Waddell and Agnes N. Pellette, brothers; Benjamite and Wheeler Norwood, sister in love; Kim Jenkins, 9 grandchildren; Jaelyn, JaKelle, Brittani, Brandy, Kiante, Jada, Jasmine, Kelsey Jr. and Sebastian, 7 great-grandchildren; Nyleaj, Da’Zani, Reagan, Kenzley, Jackson, Demi and Dakota, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 3 brothers: Jesse, David and Galen Norwood.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 12PM – 1PM with a service to begin at 1PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Cancer Foundation.
