

Georgiana Landry Balser Bretz, age 87, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2022 at Our House For Respite in Baton Rouge, LA. She was born in Lobdell, LA on March 12, 1934 to George H. Landry, Sr. and Era Goudeau Landry. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and a Master’s Degree in Mathematics. She was a high school math teacher for over 40 years in Orleans Parish and Jefferson Parish, retiring from Immaculata High School in Marrero, LA. She was a champion for education and personally awarded scholarships to girls in need at Immaculata High School, which later merged with Archbishop Blenk High School and renamed Academy of Our Lady. Her generous and continuous giving benefitting young women on the Westbank of New Orleans which was 3 of her nieces’ Alma Maters.
Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, and traveling. She was an adventurer and went on many guided tours in the United States, as well as Europe, favoring Ireland. But her favorite trips were the many ones with her siblings, usually to the Smoky Mountains. She and her 1st husband belonged to numerous clubs including Kiwanis of Metairie and the Krewe of Atlas, in which she was queen one year.
She is preceded in death by husbands James P. Balser by first marriage and Harold Bretz by second marriage; parents George, Sr. and Era Landry; brothers George, Jr. and Thomas, Sr.; sister in law Mamie Landry, Eve Landry, Lena Landry, and Barbara Hopfensetz; brothers in law Albert Hopfensetz and Joseph Titone; nephews Kenneth Titone, Geoffrey Landry, and Terry Landry.
She is survived by her sister, and best friend Connie Daigle (Larry), her brother Larry Landry, her sister in law Margaret Landry. Also survived by her nieces and nephews who were her honorary children, Tom Landry, Jr. (Pat), Tina Buckhalter, Tony Landry (Gail), Mike Titone (Darlene), Amie Neal (Dewey), Greg Landry (Teresa), Donna Landry, Beth Haydel (Joey); 24 great nieces and nephews; 23 great great nieces and nephews.

She was an angel on earth and is now one of God’s chosen.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM with Fr. Michael Lamy officiating. Georgiana will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA. Pallbearers will be her nephews Greg Landry, Tom Landry, Jr., Mike Titone, Joey Haydel, Anthony Buckhalter, and Damon Buckhalter.
