

On Monday, April 18, 2022, after a short battle with cancer, Geraldine Ethel Burdett Monnier peacefully passed away at home, at the age of 80, surrounded by her loving family. Gerry was born in New Orleans, LA to Charles W. Burdett and Edith Howard Burdett, on December 29, 1941. As a young woman she moved to Metairie with her mother and two younger sisters. She met her husband, William Joseph Monnier, and married on April 16, 1971.
Gerry was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, Godmother, sister and aunt. She took pride in her family and was happiest when they were all gathered together. As one of the youngest of nine siblings, she was more of an older sister to her young nieces and nephews. She was always ready to gather them up and head to the movie theater, shopping center or to the park for a fun day. Gerry also enjoyed gardening, playing cards and bowling, especially in a league at Paradise Lanes.
Gerry’s Catholic faith was very important to her as she and her family were long time parishioners of St. Edward the Confessor Church. She volunteered at the school over the years her daughter, Cherie, attended. She worked at DePaul Hospital, was a homemaker and later retired from Reily Foods.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, William J. Monnier, her mother, Edith E. Howard Burdett, her father, Charles W. Burdett, her siblings, Marion Joseph (John), Walter Burdett (Yvelle), Charles Burdett Jr., Carol Bujol (Linden), Jean Ann Wolf (Ronald), Linda Mara (Gustave) and Edith M. Burdett.
She is survived by her sister, Doris Bannon (Thomas), sister-in-law, Helena Burdett, daughter, Cherie Corcoran (Paul), stepson, Craig Monnier (Lisa), and stepson, Brett Monnier (Paulette). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Patrick Corcoran, Colleen Corcoran, Meghan Corcoran, Mason Monnier (Megan), Marshall Monnier (Victoria), Myles Monnier, Justin Monnier (Victoria), Paul Monnier, Andre’ Monnier (Emily) and Austin Monnier. Four great-grandchildren, Cole Monnier, Casen Monnier, Bennett Monnier and Memphis Monnier. Along with a host of nieces and nephews.She will be remembered as a kind and gentle woman who was always willing to listen and offer a helping hand. She was loved and will be missed by all.
An evening visitation for Gerry will be held Sunday, April 24, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Metairie, Louisiana, A visitation will occur Monday, April 25, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will follow the visitation, Interment will immediately follow at Hope Mausoleum, 4841 Canal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana.
