Hazel Loyacano Romano, age 93, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023, at her home in Metairie. Hazel was born on August 18, 1929, to the late Mildred and John (Jack) Loyacano. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Natale J. Romano.
Survivors include her son, Dart J. Romano (Lisa) and her daughter, Dawn M. Romano, four grandchildren, Michael Romano (Angelle), Natalie Romano, Scott Busby, and Brett Busby, one great-granddaughter, Amelie Romano, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hazel taught at Holy Rosary School in New Orleans for 12 years and was a kindergarten teacher at St. Philip Neri School in Metairie for 30 years. However, she was best known as a dancer and choreographer. The Romano Dancers started on the Saturday Hop Show in 1958. She also choreographed the Romano Dancers on the John Pela Show until it ended in 1972.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation and funeral service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA on Saturday, July 22,2023. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Philip Neri Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are appreciated.
