Julia Diane Hinton LaBarre

Julia was born on December 29, 1960, in Pasadena, Texas, to Howard and Phyllis Hinton. Her father’s career ultimately brought the family to Metairie where Julia attended Jefferson Parish public schools and graduated from Riverdale High School. She then attended Southeastern Louisiana University and Louisiana State University, where she graduated in 1984 with a degree in architecture.

Julia worked in New Orleans as an architect, but her passion was in children’s and young adult ministry at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, her lifelong church home, where she was also president of United Women in Faith and led Missions Through Crafts and Vacation Bible School. She was also president of the Dahraf Women’s organization of Farhad Grotto and a perennial rider in the Farhad Grotto Ladybugs.

Julia married Fraisse LaBarre in 2001. They were thrilled beyond measure to welcome their son, Zachary, in 2002, who earned his own degree from Southeastern Louisiana University just last week.

She was an artist, adventurer, mentor, caregiver, and was possessed of the most exquisite wit. She lived fully and well.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, and leaves behind her aforementioned husband and son, Fraisse and Zachary; her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Ken Guillory; her first “kids”, a niece, Melissa Guillory Weaver (Matthew, sons Paxton and George) and a nephew, Michael Guillory (Melina, son Ellis); stepsons, Barry LaBarre (Ashley, daughters Katelynn and Sadie) and Cole LaBarre (Amanda, sons Mason and Austin, daughter Chloe); and a loving multitude of siblings-in-law and lifelong friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie from 5 - 7 PM and on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 6017 Camphor St. in Metairie from 10 - 11 AM. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
