

On 1 Feb 2022, Lawrence Torres died peacefully in his home at the age of 90. The beloved husband of the late Juanita Lott Torres, a native of Garyville, LA, and a resident of River Ridge, LA for 56 years. Lawrence was the fifth of ten children born to the late Clarence and Myrtle Rome Torres. He was the beloved father of Lawrence J. Torres, Jr (Patrice Moore), Bonnie (Thomas Gurtner), and Lori Ann (Robert Riddick). He was the loving grandfather of ten grandchildren: Patrick (Katherine Fossier), Timothy (Erin Landis), and Matthew Torres, Kristen (Mark Johnson) and Mallory Gurtner (Zackary Barton), Michael and Catherine Riddick, and nine great-grandchildren (Mary Katherine, Michelle, Elizabeth, Olivia, Joseph, Patrick Joseph, and Luke Torres, Caroline Barton, and Max Johnson). He is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in-laws Leo and Janie Lott, Bob and Ann Evans, Ronnie and Patsy Lott, Alvin Loupe, Jo Marie Torres, Donna Torres, Gaston Bergeron, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Warren Torres, Sr. (the late Nellwyn), C. J. Torres, Shirley Torres, Lois Mae James (the late Herbert), Gloria Loupe (Alvin), Elaine Bergeron (Gaston), Leonard Torres (Jo Marie), Mary Ann Marse (the late Clarence), and Stuart Torres (Donna), and very many nieces, nephews, and cousins including two cousins who were like sisters, Joy Matherne Roussel (the late Poochie) and Gaynell Matherne Becnel (Walter). Lawrence was a US Navy veteran, a long-time employee of Avondale Shipyard, and a member of the American Legion, the VFW (Posts 3267 and 3337) and the Knight of Columbus (Council 13425). His hobbies included hunting, fishing, vegetable gardening, and building. In the past several years he was cared for by some very special people who were angels, Jilly Leal, Nancy Cortes, Margie Cortes, the late Liz Regan, and others. Thank you all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation and Service at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 10021 Jefferson Highway, River Ridge, LA on 7 Feb 2022 from 10 a.m. until noon with the Funeral Mass to immediately follow.
