Linda Couch Fortado passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021 at the age of 78 with her family by her side. She was born on May 12, 1943. She grew up in New Orleans and later moved to Metairie after she was married, to raise her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John B. Couch and Norris Wild Couch, and her siblings, Dennis Couch and Wayne Couch.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Harold E. Fortado Jr., her children, Dwayne Fortado (Gina), Lori Anderson (Steve), and Vincent Fortado, grandchildren, Justin Fortado (Brittany) and Katie Higgins (Patrick), and step-grandchildren, Kelly Johnston Verbest (Brandon) and Sean Johnston. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Braylon Fortado, Kynlee Fortado, and Abigail Higgins, step-great-grandchildren, Lacey Verbest and Taylor Verbest, her siblings, Pamela Sinopoli (Joe), Candace Duke (Earl), Cynthia Poret (Ross), Debra Melady (Johnny), and Michael Couch (Jonelle), and sisters-in-law, Carol Couch and Diane Couch.
Linda married Harold on January 19, 1963. She was a stay-at-home Mom until she became an assistant preschool teacher at John Calvin in 1982. A few years later she became a full-time preschool teacher at St. Augustine Episcopal in 1985 and retired in May 2015 after 33 years of service. Linda loved teaching and truly had a special gift. She was such a positive influence and impacted so many lives over the years. She was also an active parishioner of Our Lady of Divine Providence Church and enjoyed being a member of the choir for many years.
She was one of the kindest, most loving, gentle, and giving people you would ever want to meet. She loved her family dearly and was happiest while spending time with them. Her family meant everything to her. She had so many special qualities and touched so many lives. Her presence will always be felt and she will be greatly missed by so many, especially those who were closest to her.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Our Lady of Divine Providence Church, 8617 W. Metairie Ave. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 10AM-11AM, with a memorial Mass to begin at 11AM. Inurnment will follow at the Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave. Biloxi, MS at 2:30PM.
