Marilyn Savage James was born on Sunday, December 7, 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Ruby Mae Charles Jones and Earl Savage, Sr. Affectionately known as “Sister,” Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose warm spirit touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.
She was educated in the Jefferson Parish School System and was baptized at an early age. Marilyn was a faithful and devoted member of Oakland Baptist Church, where she found joy in serving her church family and community. Her faith remained an important part of her life and guided the kindness and compassion she showed to others.
Marilyn had a beautiful love for life and the simple joys that brought people together. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and most of all spending cherished time with her family. Her home was filled with laughter, love, and the warmth of her caring presence. She had a gentle spirit, a loving heart, and a way of making everyone around her feel welcomed and cared for.
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, Marilyn gained her heavenly wings in the comfort of her home following a long illness. During this time, she was lovingly cared for by her devoted husband, Carlton T. James III, with whom she shared more than 30 loving years of marriage. His tenderness, strength, and unwavering dedication reflected the deep love and bond they shared.
Marilyn leaves to cherish her precious memories her beloved husband, Carlton T. James III; two sons, Eddie Veal IV and Larry St. Amant, Jr.; one daughter, Tawana Thomas; and two stepdaughters, Sabrina Armstead and Schlisa Williams. She also leaves to mourn her passing her loving sisters and brothers, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
“Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
