

Marion Gemelli Burgess, age 88, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at River Region Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Burgess; parents, Michael and Ruth C. Gemelli and brother, Gerald Gemelli. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Carolyn Diaz (husband David Diaz, Sr.) and Sidney Kent Burgess, Jr.; her grandchildren, Justin Burgess, Gerald Diaz, Zachary Burgess, David Diaz, Jr. and Liliana Diaz; her beloved sister-in-law, Iris Burgess; her godchildren, Ruth Janet Varisco and Albert Burgess; nieces, Mary Huber, Carol Ann Boovy (husband, Robert), Belinda Gemelli-Craven (husband, Paul), Michel Varisco, Evelyn Gorman (husband, David), Joann Schexnayder and Michelle Hill (husband, Steven); nephews, David Varisco, Michael Varisco (wife, Jenny) and Charles Gaudin (wife, Eva); and special friend, Shirley Salvatore. Marion was the owner of Sid-Mar’s of Bucktown from 1967 to 2005 until Hurricane Katrina. She was a founder of the Bucktown Blessing of the Fleet, which celebrated her beloved fishermen, customers and residents of old time Bucktown. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a celebration of her life at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie on Tuesday morning, March 12, 2013. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and a Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel. Interment will be in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
