Mary Lou Nastasi Malinosky, one of New Orleans bright lights, died Friday, December 24, 2010 at 9:00 AM from complication following several strokes suffered beginning in 2007. She was at home with her husband Ron who had lovingly cared for her along with their children and the caring assistance of St. Josephs Hospice during the past 3 ½ years. She was truly one of New Orleans finest daughters. She was the youngest child of Jennie Agnes Lacey and Joseph Nastasi, born September 30, 1934 into a Sicilian/Irish family with four older brothers – Joseph, Eugene, Jack and Philip. She grew up in the colorful Irish Channel near the waterfront and graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1953. She initially worked at the Times Picayune where she met, fell in love and married her soul mate Ron on November 7, 1959. They eventually settled in Kenner and raised their three children – Lacey, Ronnie and Lisa. Mary Lou faithfully served as Secretary at the First Parish Court in Jefferson Parish retiring after 30 years. During her tenure, she worked for the District Attorney’s office and for Judges Lockhart and Giacobbe. She loved and enjoyed spoiling her children, nieces and nephews who live in the surrounding New Orleans parishes and also visiting her oldest brother and his family who traveled extensively due to his service in the Marine Corps – she and her husband would arrive to visit her California family with crawfish, oysters, crabs and pastries from Gambino’s bringing their taste of New Orleans to share! Mary Lou was a faithful, active member of the Lodge No. 30 Elks Auxiliary and a volunteer at East Jefferson General Hospital. She leaves a legacy of being an inspiring, beautiful lady who was cherished by her family and friends. Mary Lou exemplified the essence of being an original New Orleans daughter. Her parents, Jennie Agnes Lacey Nastasi and Joseph A. Nastaci, Sr. and her brothers, Joseph, Eugene, Jack and Philip preceded her in death.
