Michael Mike J. Buras

Michael James Buras, beloved husband and best friend of Susan Connell Buras for almost 39 years, passed away of cancer at 9:35 a.m. on September 2, 2016 at the age of 67. He was the loving father and mentor of Julie B. Cameron (Scott), Jeffrey M. Buras (Richelle), and Jon M. Buras. His legacy continues with his beloved grandchildren: Jade and Tristan Buras, Carly Cameron, and a new baby expected in March. He is also survived by his beloved sisters-in-law, Janet Connell and Kathleen Howard. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, and cousins, especially his best friend and cousin, James Foxx Buras. Mike was employed in the shipping business for more than 28 years and was a real estate agent for many years. Mike was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, Marquette Council 1437, a member of the American Legion, and a regular member of the monthly Aloysius alumni lunch group. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Mike lived in Metairie all of his life and was a member of St. Clement of Rome Church. The family would like to thank the oncology staff at Ochsner Hospital, especially Dr. John Cole, Allison, and his chemo nurse, Carolyn. They would also like to thank Hospice Associates, especially Abby, who worked closely with the family guiding us through the process. CLEMENT OF ROME, 4317 Richland Avenue, Metairie, on Saturday afternoon, September 10, 2016 at 12:30. Visitation will begin at 10:00 in church.
