Michael “Umpie” Thomas Parks, 62, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 after a courageous battle against cancer. Michael was a member of the Veterans Umpires for 11 years. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patti-Jean (Griffith) and Charles C. Parks, and his daughter, Christine Rae Parks. He is survived by his wife, Judy, sons Michael Jr. (Natasha) and Brian (Zaida), stepdaughters Crysie (Mike) and Shelley, his three brothers and one sister, Rip, Pat (Donna), Terry (Helaine), Linda Balez (Bob). He was also blessed with 8 grandchildren, Ananya, Nadia, Tiana, Alayna, AJ, Chris, Alyssa and Ross, as well as a grandchild to be born soon, and 3 great-grandchildren. Umpie loved watching his Saints play on Sundays and listening to a baseball game on the radio with his basset hound Lucy. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Leitz-Eagan, 4747 Veterans Blvd, Metairie, La 70006. Visitation from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.
