Ricky was many things to many people, a roofer, a school bus driver, a neighbor, and a friend; but to those who knew him best, he was simply one of a kind. Tough as leather with a heart of gold, he lived life on his own terms and never hesitated to help others.
He followed in his father’s footsteps in the Roofing and Sheet Metal Industry and drove a school bus for the Jefferson Parish School System. Whether on a rooftop or behind the wheel, Ricky brought warmth, humor, and his unmistakable laugh wherever he went. If you grew up in Bucktown, chances are you knew him. Even if you did not, he still treated you like a friend.
With a gentle soul, Ricky had a way of making everyone feel welcome. Animals instinctively trusted him, and people did too. Known for giving the shirt off his back, he was resilient, hardworking, stubborn in the best way, and endlessly generous; a true Bucktown staple.
Above all, Ricky was a devoted father. His daughters were his pride and joy. He taught by example and passed on strength, loyalty, kindness, and independence.
Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore A. Babin and Lorraine Domingo Babin, and his brother, Theodore N. Babin.
He is survived by his daughters, Cassie M. Babin (Bryan) and Brittany L. Babin; his grandchildren, Kaeley Elizabeth Gutierrez, Bryan Leo Hebert III, Brennen Joseph Toledo, Khloe Marie Toledo, and Claire Patricia Hebert; his siblings, Linda M. Dill (Jeffrey) and Glenda B. Montreuil (Donald); his nieces and nephew, Amiee M. Dill (Jennifer), Christine M. Cottrell, Melissa A. Montreuil, and Sean M. Montreuil; and his great-grandniece and great-grandnephew, Genevieve Cottrell and Jackson Berry.
He is also survived by the mother of his daughters, Monique S. Grasso, and his blended family, Melynda S. Foret (Brandon), and their children, Blake, Bryce, Baylee, Brynna, and Breck, who held a special place in his heart.
Ricky leaves behind countless friends and loved ones who will forever carry his stories, laughter, and kindness in their hearts.
