

Wilburn James “Jimmie” “Sugar” Chabaud, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011, at St. Joseph’s of Harahan Home. Beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Paul Chabaud for 67 years. At age 93, he loved helping others, ballroom dancing and making people laugh. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Zane “Beth” Lau Miller and son-in-law Ron, his parents William Joseph Chabaud and Jane Gabriel Briant, his brothers Arnold Steven and wife Lorena, William “Bill” Joseph, Earl Joseph and wife Ida Mae, and Max Chabaud. Survived by daughter Cheryl C. Bradley and husband Thomas L., Sr., son Aaron B. Chabaud and wife Mary Teresa “Terri” duTreil, of Folsom. Loving grandfather of Deeanne L. Casey and husband Matt of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Lisa L. Pratt and husband Rob of Shenandoah, TX, Michelle B. VanZandt and husband Chris of Arlington, TX, Thomas L. Bradley, Jr. of Slidell, Sean E. Bradley of New Orleans, Kathryn and Victoria Chabaud of Folsom, and great grandchildren Ryan Wayne and Taylor Zane Pratt, Katelyn Casey and Ashleigh VanZandt and sisters-in-law Marian, Joyce and Shirley Chabaud. Uncle Sugar will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Born in Lockport, LA, July 25, 1917, and raised in New Orleans, he attended St. Aloysius High School, enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served proudly in Europe during WWII. He has resided in Metairie since 1950. Jimmie worked at Avondale Shipyards, Henderson Sugar Refinery and retired from Kaiser Aluminum, Chalmette. He was a member of the Steelworker’s Union, lifetime member of VFW Post 6640, a member of Dance Lovers’ and Latinaires clubs. A former parishioner of St. Mary Magdalene, he attended Parkway Presbyterian Church with his wife. Many thanks to the nurses Gennie, Norma, Dianne and all of the staff at St. Joseph’s for their years of caring for Jimmie.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 11:00 am. Rev. Tom Paine will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service. Inurnment will be at Parkway Presbyterian Memorial Garden, 6200 Camphor St., Metairie at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Assn., Prostate Cancer research, or Parkway Presbyterian Church.
